The location of Gordon College is about as perfect as you can get for most college students. Located in Wenham, Gordon College basically
makes up the town's entire population. When I moved into an apartment in a neighboring town recently, I was talking to the phone company and found out that she didn't even know where
Wenham was, and it wasn't coming up on her screen listing. Finally, she found that they just considered it to be a part of the town next to it, which should give you some idea of the
general importance of Wenham. They do, however, have their own post office and police force, which is why they are rightfully considered a town.
What is so appealing about the location of Gordon is that the immediate area is pretty quiet and serene, and only about two miles from the ocean and beaches. One of the draws of Gordon
is the spring time, when classes mean nothing and warm weather means everything, and the entire college congregates on Singing Beach.
For those of us who like the City, Gordon is close enough to Boston to make an evening there a possibility without being a hassle. Gordon is 1.5 miles from the closest "T" stop, the preferred mass transit
in the city and surrounding areas. The other possibility is to just drive into the city, which is only about 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic and the speed of your vehicle.
What the area is most famous for, perhaps, is it's rich historic tradition. It is not uncommon to see a house with a plaque stating that it is a historic marker because of it's age. Wenham is surrounded by towns that
are popular in their own right, from the fishermen of Gloucester to the arts town of Rockport, or the ship-building town of Essex to the coastal towns of Magnolia and Manchester by the Sea, the area is
definitely an attraction worth seeing.
