The dorms of Gordon College have been increasing in number and quality over the past few years. One apartment building is celebrating it's third year of use, and there is a dorm currently being built
right next to this one that will be in it's first year of operation next year.
There are a variety of living situations that fit to everyone's taste, from the apartments reserved primarily for upperclassmen to the road halls, which are houses that serve as dorms. Additionally, there are
intentionaly community houses, each with it's own theme, and next year there will be suites available with two bedrooms that share a common room and bathroom.
The quality of the dorms varies depending on the building you are in. If you are in one of the newer dorms, such as the newest building (don't plan on it though, preference is for the upperclassmen) or in Ferrin Hall,
you will be generally pleased with your living arrangements. There is also the traditionally exciting Wood Hall as well, which is located directly between the Library/Primary Classroom building, and the Student Center.
There are also the less-desirable buildings as well, and it wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention them. Byington Hall, a small building attached to Wood Hall,
has been called a rat pit, and is probably a place you don't want to get stuck. Shepherd Hall is affectionately been called "The Nunery", being the only dorm of all
girls. (Most dorms have two sides: one side is the girls and the other side is the guys, with a communal lounge in the middle. Other dorms vary by floors.)
Overall, the dorms are in pretty good shape, and are very accomodating compared to what it could be. There are open hall hours, when guys and girls are allowed in each
other's rooms, but they are pretty lenient compared to some other Christian Colleges. For example, there are hours everyday, (apartments have a lot more hours than regular dorms)
compared to some colleges where you are only allowed once or twice a week, or sometimes less. So, be encouraged about your possible living situation, and don't worry, even the
bad dorms aren't that bad. At most, you only have to have it for a year!
