Okay, lets get to the serious part of this discussion: the food! Don't be fooled, when you visit Gordon, what you eat is not what you will eat the rest of the year! While I can't compare the food at Gordon College to any other college because I have never been to any other college, and comparing it to Mom's home cooking just isn't fair, I can only base my opinions on the food overall, and my opinion might be different from everyone elses.

Though usually I'm of the opinion that you should start with the positive so that the negatives don't seem so bad, I'm starting with the negative first because it's easier. The only bad thing about the food at Gordon is that it is expensive. You buy a meal plan, which costs anywhere from about 1700 to 2000 dollars a year, and then you get "points" on your ID card, which work like cash. Instead of getting a certain number of meals per week like they do at many colleges, you buy every piece of food individually. This sytem does have it's benefits, like the opportunity to buy food and snacks even when it's not meal time without wasting an entire meal. On the other hand, however, the price for these individual foods can run the bill up dramatically. A small pint of milk, you know, the ones you buy in your high school cafeteria for 25 cents will run you about 85 cents at Gordon, and Bagels and donuts also cost substantially more than other places in the world. My advice is to buy a smaller meal plan than you need, because people are always trying to sell mealpoints at the end of the semester. When you buy them in advance, the cost is $1:1 point, but if you buy them from students, the going rate is about 1/2 price, so in the long run you'll save yourself money.

The food itself is generally pretty good, and it's probably as much as you can expect from people who have to cook for 1300+ people. The pizza from the pizza shop is almost always pretty tasty, and if you get a freshly cooked hamburger from the grill you are going to be pleased. Make sure that you get the food as quick as close as you can to the time it was cooked however, because the general rule of thumb is that the quality of food goes down exponentially the longer it sits under the burner. You can't always be assured that you won't have "Chicken Surprise" or some other classic lunchroom dish, but most of the time they do a good job making the food look appealing and letting you know what you're getting. My advice: if you're not sure what you're looking at, go for the Pizza!
